Intensiv-Sprachwoche England

Language week in Eastbourne, England

Day 1: 14.08.2022  The arrival in England

 airportairport2

Today we met very early in the morning with our classmates and teachers in front of the school. We said goodbye to our parents and left for the Munich airport. Our group's first flight took of on time, but the second one was a bit late. Queen Elisabeth's coffin was transported to England, so the air had to be clear. But we all made it to the airport London Heathrow. There a bus took us to Eastbourne in the south of Great Britain. At the bus station in Eastbourne, our host families picked us up. It was a very exciting journey to Eastbourne for all of us.

Day 2: 15.08.2022  The first day in Eastbourne

 eastbourneeastbourne2

We got up early, got breakfast from our host families and many of them took us to school or explained the way and the bus to get there. The SFA language school was our meeting point in Eastbourne with our Austrian teachers for the whole week. Every day, different native speaker teachers did fun activities with us at school. In the afternoon we walked through Eastbourne to get to know the city. We also walked to the pier and did a quiz to explore different spots in the city. At about 6 o'clock, we went back home to our host parents.

Day 3: 16.08.2022  Trip to Brighton

 brightbright2

At school today we learned interesting details about England and the food, money, history, sights there, so the time passed quickly. In the afternoon we toot the train to Brighton, a popular town at the sea near Eastbourne. It is famous for its pier and for all kinds of art. There we visited the Sea Life Center. It is a museum with a lot of sea animals and fish. The underwater world there was fantastic. Then, we had some free time to walk around the pier and on our way back we passed the Royal Pavillion, which was built by Kind George IV and looks like an oriental palace.

Day 4: 17.08.2022  The first day in London

Today there was no school because of the weekend, so we use the time to explore the capity city of England: London. It was a special weekend for the people, because Queen Elisabeth II had died at the age of 96 on September 8th and the funeral was planned for the following Monday. We met early in the morning with our teachers at the station and took the train to Victoria Station in London. We took a hop on / hop off tour with a doubledecker bus. From the deck we saw many famous sights, for example we passed Buckingham Palace (home of the Royal Family), Saint Paul's Cathedral (a famous church), Big Ben with Westminster Palace (the famous clock tower with the Houses of Parliamen where the British government meets), London Eye (the big wheel at the Thames) and the Tower Bridge (most famous bridge in London). We also stopped at Covent Garden - a famous shopping and toursit area - where we had some time to walk around and buy souvenirs.

Day 5: 18.08.2022  The second day in London

 buckinghamwestminster

Today we took the train to London again. Altough it was very crowded and we had to wait in line for a long time, we visited Buckingham Palace. After a walk past other sights, our highlight that day was the London Dungeon. It is an interactive, scary museum where they show the dark history of London. It was scary, but also very cool and intersting. After the show we went to Sky Garden, a skyscraper where we had a great view over London. We also took the London underground called the Tube and went back to Eastbourne by train. I really enjoyed the two days in London and I was very impressed by the city.

Day 6: 19.08.2022  Trip to Beachy Head

 beachybeachy2

As usual school started at 9 o'clock today. We know Eastbourne better from day to day, so we got used to taking the bus or walking to school. The highlight today was our trip to Beachy Head in the afternoon. It is a beautiful place next to the sea in the sourth with really high, white chalk cliffs. Luckily, the weather was wonderful that day. We walked along the cliffs and laid in the grass to eat some snacks. It was very relaxing. I really enjoyed it there. In the evening, we went back home to our host parents for dinner.

Day 7: 20.08.2022  Trip to Hastings

 hastings4hastings3

After school and a little lunch break, we took the train to Hastings today. It is also a very beautiful town at the south coast. There we climbed lots of stairs and arrived on a big field. From this point we had a wonderful view. If the weather is nice, you can even see the coast of France from there. Then we went into the famous smugglers' caves. Years ago, it was a hide out for smugglers and a shelter for people during World War II. After the caves we walked through the old town of Hastings, spent some time there and bought food and souvenirs. After going back to Eastbourne, sadly, we had to pack our bags, because it was the last day in England.

Day 8: 21.08.2022  The return back home

 queenqueen2

Very early today our host parents took us to the bus station in Eastbourne where we met our teachers and classmates. Saying goodbye to the host families was warm and thankful. We went to London Heathrow by bus and flew back to Munich. After another long bus ride, we reached Altenmarkt in the evening. I was very happy to see my family again. To summarize, we had a fantastic week in England. We learnded a lot about the country and got used to speaking the language. We saw a lot of beautiful placs and sights. The weather, the food and the host families were absolutely great there. I can only recommend this experience and I would like to thank everyone for it, especially my teachers and my parents.
